Incomparably great power

Hope, riches and power are provided to every person who puts their faith in Jesus Christ. These qualities formed out of this relationship should shock and amaze us. I suspect for the most part these are ignored every day as people walk in their own strength, setting aside the LORD. Ephesians 1 gives us a glimpse.

I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you…

What is the hope that we have? Well, let me defer this one a moment while we look at the other two.

…the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people…

What is this inheritance? Perhaps we can just think about what an inheritance is and from where this one comes. An inheritance is what is passed on–typically–from parent to child. You inherit genes from your parents and more than likely whatever material wealth or debt they have. Our Father in Heaven is the creator and owner of the whole universe  and the very definition of love and goodness. I cannot but think that the least part of the inheritance from such a one is so much that I would not have the least idea in how to count, spend or grasp it.

…his incomparably great power for us who believe.

Feel powerless? I often do. Please take another moment to consider this power that God offers to us.

That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.

This power offered to us is the power that takes a man beaten, bruised, pierced, hung on a cross and days dead to the highest throne in heaven above all powers, rulers and authorities. This is the power that transforms worm food into unstoppable, incomprehensible awesomeness.

I think perhaps having access to such power in light of whatever problems you are facing should give you hope. Accept the power that Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross provided for you. He is sufficient for you.
