I am not sure if this is an affliction you share with me but when I hear “I the Lord do not change.” it can be easy to jump to hasty conclusions. We ought to take care in how we judge God.
God does not learn. God says both destroy them completely (speaking of the idolatrous nations in Deuteronomy whose iniquity was complete) and in (Revelation 22 speaking as the King James Version) whosoever will may come. Skeptics will provide a long list of impossibilities about God. Let’s try something for a moment to begin to get our arms around an unchanging God who is also consistent and sufficient.
Science tells us that our universe is very vast, having to invent measurements like light-years to even get the numbers to have few enough places to write down reasonably. Beyond that many theoreticians are convinced that we may be a part of a multiverse of (at least) many universes. To say it in the small, we live in a big place. Consider for a moment if we could perhaps have a sort of a Groundhog Day experience with the universe (or multiverse) and all the universe (except you) will repeat some sequence of time (pick whatever reasonably small amount you like – one (Earth) day, week, month, or year – but in this case you are not constrained as you are today. In this scenario you have the ability in that time to be instantly transported to any point in the universe (or multiverse) and without harm look around all you like.
The universe (I’ll not going on saying multiverse) in our scenario is unchanging in a way (I did not say we totally froze the universe because I don’t think a universe-sized statue gets across the meaning as well) but also so very large as to be more than daunting to explore. Even with your superpower and nothing else to do for as long as you like, it is hard to conceive that you could ever say that the unchanging universe is insufficient or inadequate. There is so much to explore and to know. Enough of my attempted analogy.
Do we not presume too much to say that an unchanging God is an inadequate God? Is He not vast and deep? I have no doubt after the end of days we shall find those things we thought were flaws or contradictions were only the insufficiency of our perception of the LORD God Almighty.
